Antique Art Nouveau Amethyst & Old-Cut Diamond Figural Cluster Ring, Circa 1900

A remarkable antique ring dating to the Art Nouveau period, circa 1900, featuring a richly coloured amethyst surrounded by old-cut diamonds and an exceptionally unusual sculptural figural design.

At the centre is an oval-cut natural amethyst, displaying a beautiful deep purple hue. The amethyst is encircled by twelve old-cut natural diamonds, whose individually cut facets give the cluster the soft and characterful sparkle associated with antique diamonds.

The cluster is framed by a twisted rope-style gold border and flanked by beautifully modelled female figures forming the shoulders of the ring. Each figure is depicted reclining beneath the central setting, with flowing hair and finely rendered facial and bodily details merging organically into the broad gold shank. The flowing lines, female forms and sculptural quality are wonderfully characteristic of the Art Nouveau aesthetic.

Substantial in both scale and weight at approximately 12 grams, the ring has wonderful presence on the hand. The combination of deep purple amethyst, antique diamonds and highly unusual figural goldwork makes this a particularly distinctive piece of turn-of-the-century jewellery.

The ring remains in excellent antique condition and would make a wonderful addition to a collection of unusual Art Nouveau or antique jewellery.
