Description
Dating to 1966, this striking vintage signet ring is crafted in warm 9ct yellow gold and set with a large oval natural bloodstone tablet.
The bloodstone displays a rich deep green body colour scattered with distinctive red inclusions, creating the characteristic appearance for which this traditional gemstone is known. Measuring approximately 15 × 11mm, the stone is securely bezel-set within a broad polished gold surround, giving the ring a bold yet beautifully balanced appearance.
The substantial oval head is complemented by elegant open split shoulders, which add a particularly attractive architectural detail while allowing the statement-sized setting to sit comfortably on the finger. Despite its generous 21 × 17mm head, the ring has a relatively low profile of approximately 5.3mm.
Fully hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay Office for 9ct gold, with date letter R for 1966, the ring is a wonderful example of mid-century British jewellery. It remains in excellent vintage condition and would make a distinctive everyday signet ring or an unusual addition to a vintage jewellery collection.
As bloodstone is a naturally occurring gemstone, its individual pattern of green colouring and red inclusions is unique to the stone.
